Microneedle

Micro needling, is an amazing skincare treatment as it has the unique ability to fade scars, revive sluggish skin, and rejuvenate the overall complexion.

During microneedling, a series of ultra thin needles are injected into the dermis and epidermis. These micro puntures tell the body to start repairing itself, and as a result, collagen and elastin begin to regenerate. These tiny perforations also allow the introduction of important nutrients, vitamins, minerals and skin medications, guaranteeing that they will be well absorbed.

What areas can micro needling be used for?

Microneedling can be done on the face, neck, chest, hands stomach or anywhere it may help with one of the issues stated above-although needle depth is adjusted for thinner skin.

What will  I experience during and after the treatment?

Microneedling, is administered with the use of a Dermal Pen, an automatic, handheld device containing one or up to a dozen fine needles. These are customized to the exact depth required by each patient. A numbing cream or gel will be applied about 30 minutes before your treatment begins, or you may be sent home with some to apply before your appointment. This will greatly reduce any discomfort felt. The pen gently glides across the skin over a period of about 15-30 minutes depending of the size of the are being treated.  A light-depth treatment will usually be mildly red and feels like sandpaper brushed against the skin.. A deeper treatment may feel like a bad sunburn and resolve with 48 hours. Some patients only require a single treatment once a year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.

For patients with more significant skin-care concerns, such as acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6 week intervals.

How many treatments will I need?

Because microneedling is gentle and customized for each individual, the progression of results will be accumulative and usually requires a series of treatments spaced out over several months.  With each session, results will be more noticeable and the complexion gradually improves with optimal results being seen 4-6 months from last treatment.  Some patients may only require a single treatment and it may be repeated annually to maintain results. On average patients will require 2-4 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart. Patients with more significant conditions,  those with acne scars will usually need between 6 and 8 sessions every 6 weeks to see complete success.

How will my skin feel after the treatment?

In the hours and days that follow microneedling, your skin may feel more tender and sensitive. It will also feel tighter than usual. It may also be extra vulnerable to sun burns, so it is imperative to protect your skin from the sun through a full spectrum, sunblock.  We also ask that you not pick at the skin as it is healing to avoid the possibility of scarring.
